If you ask a mom, she will tell you that there is never enough time to prepare for having a baby, but scientists have found the perfect time to become a mother.
While women were constantly warned about not getting pregnant later in life, newest evidence showed the opposite. Apparently, there are perks to getting pregnant after 35 years of age.
It was already known that giving birth after 35 increases life expectancy, but the findings of the study conducted at the University of Southern California indicates that it actually improves the mental abilities of the mother.
The study involved 830 postmenopausal women, and tests showed that the ones that had their last baby after 35 had better verbal memory and cognition.
According to researchers, this is due to the surge of hormones – estrogen and progesterone – during pregnancy, which has a positive effect on the function and chemistry of the brain, especially if the last pregnancy occurred at a later age.
Furthermore, these women are usually already settled in their careers and are better off financially, so they are better in coping difficulties and managing stress, like giving birth.
Giving birth after 35 has its own benefits. First of all, these mothers are in better shape, experienced, calm, and do worry less about having a baby.
They are prepared for the responsibility that comes with motherhood, and accept the suggestions of doctors to prevent complications during the pregnancy.
Moreover, older mothers lack estrogen and progesterone so the hormonal changes are beneficial for them. They sleep and eat better, their memory is improved, and the plan things better. They regularly visit their doctor and take a proper care of their overall health.
Nevertheless, there are always both, advantages and disadvantages of pregnancies later in life. However, if you plan to give birth and become an older mother, it would definitely be a decision that you will never regret.
Yet, make sure you ensure the best possible care for you and your baby.
