These days, we mostly consume processed foods, as our fast, stress-rich lifestyles seek convenience in all aspects of life.
Only a small portion of us buys their meat and produce locally, while the rest consumes imported produce full of preservatives and processed foods.
Therefore, many of us have no clue how our food grows and what it looks like before we buy it or serve it on the table.
We compiled a list of 12 foods that we believe none of you knew grew or looked this weird:
- Sesame seeds
When the little pods are cut, you can spot the sesame seeds lined up in little rows.
Most of you probably didn’t know that pistachios grow on trees and have a different color from the one we know after being harvested.
Believe it or not, vanilla looks like green string beans before being harvested and dried. Afterwards, it gets its brown color.
Almonds also grow on trees, and get darker and drier as they ripen.
Even though you are familiar with cinnamon in the form of sticks, it actually grows in the form of a cinnamon tree.
Saffron grows as a flower, and the stigmas are afterward plucked and dried.
Cashews grow nothing like the nuts we know when we purchase them! They grow like strange, but beautiful fruits.
- Cacao or cocoa beans
Fresh cacao beans grow a lot different before they are dried and processed.
Artichokes are initially bulbous plants that grow out of the ground.
The quinoa seeds look a lot different than the white or red quinoa we know.
Strangely, dates grow in massive clusters.
Before being harvested and picked for us, capers grow in the form of reddish greens pods.
